A journey that started a year ago with both of them completing their NVQ modules in Retailing with Microcom assistance has culminated in both securing permanent management positions within my store at Glasgow Fort.

I completed the SVQ Management level 4 within an 8 month period. I originally started the SVQ whilst in the role of the Operational Training Manager for Scotland and continued to complete the course when I moved to Leeds as a Resourcing Development Consultant. The challenge for myself was the change of role mid way through the course which meant I was completing modules on areas of my job that I was just learning or getting used to. However, throughout this period of time I was able to contact my Tutor at any time for support or guidance. We regularly assessed where I was up to and the best modules to complete that reflected the work that I do.
The value that it has added has been two fold, firstly that it endorses me as a people manager and confirms that the way I work and the processes I follow are effective in their use. And secondly it provides personal development that is controlled by yourself at your own pace and fits around all other commitments both in and out of work, for example, during the 8 month period of completing the course I changed jobs, sold a house and moved to a house 300 miles away.
I would like to continue to develop myself in this manner and am awaiting the new NVQ details next month before deciding on how I want to progress.

The Management Level 4 MA was relative to my role and was worthwhile completing. The collation and evidencing of material specific to the qualification was streamlined and cross referenced into further units well.
